Use Case: Specifying an Anti-Vandal Cabinet for a Coastal or Industrial Environment

A combined security and corrosion risk

Some infrastructure locations face more than one enclosure risk. The cabinet may be exposed to deliberate damage while also operating in a coastal, polluted or industrial atmosphere that can accelerate corrosion.

Selecting only for security can leave coating and material interfaces under-specified. Selecting only for corrosion can leave hinges, fasteners and locking points vulnerable to attack. The enclosure needs a coordinated specification.

Environmental review

The project should identify salt exposure, industrial pollutants, standing water, prevailing wind, cleaning chemicals, drainage and the likelihood of coating damage from site activity.

C5M is the specified external surface-treatment quality for SafeBox AV in aggressive environments. It is a protection specification, not a claim that maintenance is unnecessary or that corrosion can never occur.

Physical-security review

SafeBox AV uses reinforced welded construction and four-point locking with 25 mm hardened steel bars. Hidden hinges and the absence of visible assembly elements reduce exposed locations that could otherwise be targeted.

The security review should still include the slab, fence line, surrounding structures, door clearances and the tools or time an attacker could reasonably have at the site.

Why interface detail matters

  • Coating systems can be compromised by unapproved drilling or grinding.
  • Mixed metals and poorly treated cut edges can create local corrosion risks.
  • External brackets, antennas and ventilation modifications need compatible detailing.
  • Standing water around the base can undermine both durability and access.
  • Maintenance damage should be repaired using an approved coating procedure.
  • Door seals and locking components must remain operable after environmental exposure.

Delivery plan

The cabinet configuration should be completed before delivery so that unnecessary site cutting or drilling is avoided. Any required penetrations, vent patterns or mounting provisions should be defined in the approved design.

A typical installation is approximately four hours, subject to site and operational conditions, but the overall programme must also include access, lifting, base preparation, inspection and coating repair where required.

Maintenance in an aggressive environment

Inspection should focus on coating damage, edges, door interfaces, locking components, drainage and areas where deposits can collect. Early repair of local damage is more effective than waiting for widespread deterioration.

Cleaning methods should remove harmful deposits without damaging the coating, gaskets or security components.

Selection outcome
